Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary Children in Need Special, “Destination: Skaro,” revisits old foes…

*****TARDIS-SIZED SPOILERS!*****

A new Doctor Who “Children In Need” charity special titled “Destination: Skaro” debuted this week. In this seven-minute short, a freshly-regenerated Doctor (Tenth Doctor David Tennant, returning to the role) accidentally makes a brief crash landing on the planet Skaro at a pivotal, foreboding moment in the planet’s history; the unveiling of the prototype Dalek (Daleks being the Doctor’s oldest foes, dating back to 1963’s serial, “The Mutants”). The unveiling is overseen by the Daleks’ twisted creator Davros (Julian Bleach, reprising the role), and his bumbling assistant (Mawaan Rizwan) who can’t quite come up with a proper anagram for this new offshoot of the Kaled race…

Enjoy this wonderful little prequel to 1975’s “Genesis of the Daleks”…

The first new episode of the series, titled “Star Beast” (a nod to the original script title for 1979’s “ALIEN”) will air on BBC in the UK and Ireland, and will stream on Disney+ (as well as Britbox) for the US and other countries, this Saturday, November 25th. The return episode, will feature David Tennant’s return to the role, with the 15th Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa (“Barbie”) assuming the role for the series’ annual Christmas Special later this year.

Actor Ncuti Gatwa will become the 15th Doctor

To those who wish to make a donation to the BBC’s Children In Need Charity, here’s a link to the organization’s site: BBC Children In Need UK. And since today is the holiday of Thanksgiving here in the United States, I will keep this column atypically brief, and simply wish everyone a happy Doctor Who Day and weekend. Allons-y…!
